Welcome to the British Arab Lawyers Association

There is a sizeable British Arab community (“the Community”) in the UK, estimated to include more than 500’000 people.

Nonetheless, the Community is unrepresented in British public life. There are no MPs or peers of Arab origin, despite the success of the Community, which boasts a large number of professionals, academics, doctors, lawyers, businessmen and women, and students.

In British society, lawyers have an important role to play in supporting and encouraging justice and equality. There are already active associations representing a range of cultures and ethnicities in Britain, all of whom play a meaningful and significant role in the public lives of their respective communities.

It was against this background that the British Arab Lawyers’ Association (“the Association”) was founded in 2009.

The Association aims first and foremost to maintain a close network of British Arab lawyers which will act as a source of support to the Community, providing guidance and leadership on issues facing the Community in Britain.

At the same time, the Association aims to establish a link between this network and the Community at large, and through this link to assist British Arabs both legally and socially. Additionally, the Association aims to provide its own members with lectures, seminars and networking opportunities which will help members to advance professionally, be they experienced practitioners or students at an early stage in their legal career.

In an instant his shyness disappeared; he found that the hecklers only gave him strength and clarified his thoughts. Soon the largest crowd in Speaker’s Corner was gathered around the gangly Palestinian.
